“The Dastardly Master Asteroid Blaster” was premiered at the 2019 International Trombone Festival in Muncie, IN, USA as a part of that year’s Composers Workshop. It is a musical homage to pulpy science fiction comics and cheesy (yet charming) space adventure novels one might find for 99 cents in a used book store. I wanted to convey adventure, drama, maybe a bit of comedy, and all the other aspects of these classic large sweeping stories in a condensed musical episode. Hopefully this piece will make you think of breathtaking starscapes, big looming spaceships, and intense laser fights.
